In this episode, Ian and Jenny find themselves in Hong Kong for a quick 48-hour visa run from Thailand. With only one full day in the city and facing intense summer heat, the goal was simple: stay cool while exploring some of Hong Kong’s iconic spots. From testing out cooling towels at Don Don Donki to a classic breakfast at Australian Dairy Co. and ending with a walk down the Avenue of Stars, this day was full of laughs, food, and fan moments.
🧊 Staying Cool with Cooling Towels in the Hong Kong Heat
Our adventure started with trying to survive the brutal Hong Kong summer heat. To prepare, we picked up cooling towels from Don Don Donki, hoping they’d offer some relief. Spoiler alert: while the towels were cool, it felt more like putting muscle cream on our skin rather than an ice bath! Still, they helped us push through the day’s intense heat and kept us going as we tackled our short stay.

🐮 Australian Dairy Co. Experience: Worth the Hype?
Arriving in Hong Kong, we had our hearts set on visiting Kam’s Roast Goose, a Michelin-star restaurant famed for its Next, we made our way to the famous Australian Dairy Co., known for its classic Cha Chaan Teng (茶餐廳)-style breakfast. Ian was especially excited, as he was craving the nostalgic flavors of a Cha Chaan Teng—a traditional Hong Kong café that blends Western and Chinese comfort food. They gained popularity in the 1950s as a way for locals to enjoy Western food at a fraction of the price. If you’re looking for a true taste of Hong Kong culture, a visit to a Cha Chaan Teng is a must! If you haven’t been to a Cha Chaan Teng before, here’s what to expect:
- Fluffy scrambled eggs
- Thick-cut toast with condensed milk
- Milk tea
- Macaroni Soup
While the meal was enjoyable, it wasn’t the life-changing experience we had anticipated. After we posted our video, some viewers pointed out that locals don’t actually consider Australian Dairy Co. to be all that great. In fact, it seems like a place more popular among tourists. Even though we saw locals dining there, the general consensus is that this café doesn’t represent the best of Hong Kong. Still, it’s worth trying for the experience, especially if you’re interested in Cha Chaan Teng culture.

🌟 Avenue of Stars: Celebrating Hong Kong’s Film Legends
One of the highlights of our day in Hong Kong was a visit to the famous Avenue of Stars, a 440-meter-long promenade that pays tribute to the stars of Hong Kong’s thriving film industry. Inspired by the Hollywood Walk of Fame, this scenic walkway along Victoria Harbour honors local cinematic legends who have contributed to Hong Kong’s reputation as the “Hollywood of the East.”
How It Came About
The Avenue of Stars was established in 2004 to celebrate the rich history of Hong Kong cinema, which has produced some of the most internationally recognized names in film. Icons like Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Chow Yun-Fat, Maggie Cheung, and Jet Li all have their handprints and plaques on display. The promenade provides not only a scenic spot for fans but also serves as a cultural reminder of Hong Kong’s cinematic legacy.
The Bruce Lee statue is one of the most popular attractions, and it’s hard not to fanboy (or fangirl) when standing in front of the 2.5-meter bronze statue of the martial arts legend. For fans of action cinema, seeing Bruce Lee memorialized in such an iconic way is worth the trip alone!
Fun Tidbits
- The Handprints: Over 100 celebrities have left their mark with handprints and plaques, allowing fans to literally “touch” the history of Hong Kong cinema.
- Renovations: The Avenue of Stars underwent major renovations in 2019, introducing new interactive features, more seating, and enhanced views of the harbor, making it an even better place to enjoy the sights.
- Perfect for Evening Strolls: The best time to visit the Avenue of Stars is in the evening. As the sun sets and the lights of Victoria Harbour start to twinkle, the promenade becomes even more picturesque. It’s also a great spot to watch the nightly Symphony of Lights show.
For cinema buffs, the Avenue of Stars is a must-visit destination that brings you closer to the stars of Hong Kong’s legendary film industry. Whether you’re there for the history, the views, or to fanboy over Jackie Chan, it’s an iconic spot that perfectly wraps up any day in the city.
