About Us

Hey, we’re Jenny & Ian.

Asia travel bloggers who quit their jobs, sold everything, and spent 202 days across 6 countries — with nothing but carry-on bags and a camera.

Jenny and Ian - Chasing the Chungs

The short version

We grew up in Calgary, moved to Toronto chasing the big dream, and built careers at international sports brands. Ian was an art director. Jenny worked in design and marketing. We had the jobs, the apartment, the plan.

Then the 9-to-5 grind burned us out. Post-Covid, we looked at our lives and decided we were done waiting. We sold everything, booked one-way flights, and landed in Asia with no return date.

What started as a 3-month trip turned into 202 days across 6 countries.

China. Vietnam. Thailand. Malaysia. South Korea. Japan. We worked remotely, filmed everything, and figured out what actually makes a destination worth your time and money.

Asia Travel Bloggers: How We Got Here

We started Chasing the Chungs as a way to document what 202 days of real travel in Asia actually looks like — not a highlight reel, but the real thing. The costs, the chaos, the food, the transport failures, the moments that made it worth every dollar and delayed flight. As Asia travel bloggers, we cover Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Malaysia with the kind of detail you only get from actually being there for months, not days.

What We Cover

Our guides focus on real costs, honest itineraries, practical transport tips, and what to actually eat. No affiliate-driven recommendations for things we haven’t tried. Start with our Asia travel gear list, dig into our country-by-country guides, or read our Asia travel blog. We are two Asia travel bloggers who believe the best travel content comes from time — and we took the time.

Why We Travel Long-Term

Most people take two weeks off work and try to cram in five countries. We tried that once and came home exhausted. So we quit. We sold our stuff, packed two carry-on bags each, and left Canada for 202 days. That decision changed everything about how we see travel, and it’s why this blog exists.

What Makes Chasing the Chungs Different

There are a lot of travel blogs out there. Most of them make money by recommending things they’ve never tried, writing guides to places they visited for 48 hours, and calling it “expert advice.” We don’t do that. Every guide on this site is based on real time spent in real places. Our Japan guides come from multiple trips. Our Southeast Asia coverage comes from months on the ground, not a weekend layover in Bangkok.

We are two people who figured out how to travel slowly, cheaply, and honestly. Our posts cover actual costs, real transport options, the food we ate and would eat again, and the honest truth about what’s worth your time and money — and what isn’t. If you’re planning a long trip to Asia, or just trying to figure out where to start, you’re in the right place.
